PCHD’s Family Planning Program is offered to both males and females, including teens regardless of income. This program promotes responsible behaviors, and prevents unintended pregnancies and abortions through education and contraceptive services.
The following services are offered:
- Medical history, height, weight, blood pressure monitoring
- Physical exam and pap smear if indicated by a contracted medical provider.
- Birth Control Supplies
- Testing for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases
- Counseling and education on pregnancy and STD prevention
All of these services are conducted on a voluntary basis and in a confidential manner.
If you have a medical card (Illinois Medicaid), you may not eligible for some of these program through our department but can still receive them through your medical home. Pap smears, yearly exams and contraceptives are all covered by the state if you have the medical card.
Upon beginning our program, all clients will meet with a family planning nurse who will, take a health history, provide education and schedule an appointment with a contracted medical provider. This medical appointment will consist of an exam and contraceptive counseling. The Family Planning program at PCHD covers the cost of a yearly exam. If a pap smear is requested by the medical provider, a fee will be charged to the client to cover medical supplies and laboratory fees.
Once you bring the written prescription to PCHD, the Family Planning Nurse will be able to dispense your prescribed birth control to you at a discounted price:
- Orthocyclen, Orthotricyclen, Femcon Fe, Yaz, Orthonovum 777
- Seasonique (3 month pack)
- Depo-Provera Injection (every 12 weeks)
Prices are subject to change due to the fluctuation of medication costs and availability.
The nurses at PCHD understand that all of this information is overwhelming and at times difficult to understand. The Family Planning Nurse is available to answer any questions, discuss side effects or any other problems. If need be they can assist in contacting your doctor regarding changing medications.
